Meet the editors event on 11 February 2012

By Rosemary Ross

The Society held a very popular event on the morning of Saturday, 11 February 2012 in the foyer of High Street Methodist Church, Harpenden, to celebrate the publication of Theodora's Journals by the Local History Society.  This was an opportunity for the public to meet the book's editors, Amy Coburn and Ruth Nason

For over 20 years, Amy Coburn read and transcribed extracts from the 11 volumes of journals written by Theodora Wilson, a lifelong Harpenden resident, from the age of 17 in 1885 for over 50 years until 1937.  She described family and local events as well as commenting on what was going on the a world which was changing dramatically from her peaceful Victorian childhood to the looming shadows of the second world war.

Ruth Nason, a local book editor, has worked with Amy to produce a most attractive book.  The public responded by buying nearly 100 copies during the morning event.

Copies, price £15 are available to collect direct from Amy (01582 460621) or on the order form attached below.
