Elm trees in Harpenden

Ancient trees lost to Dutch elm disease

Maples and beech trees are now growing tall where huge elms stood along the greens beside Leyton Road and Lower High Street.  Recently scanned photos and slides recall these trees in the 1960s and 1970s. We have a large selection of photos taken in the 1980s when the elm trees had to be removed.
