New Publication by Harpenden Local History Society

In June 2016 we published a short history of Harpenden, written by Jean Gardner, to give newcomers and those who are Harpenden born and bred an outline of how and why Harpenden has grown and changed over the past 1000 years. Of course, many local people still think of Harpenden as a "village".

Jean comments: "The Story of Harpenden from Village to Town touches lightly on Harpenden's history. Most of the topics mentioned can be studied in more depth through this website, or through the books listed at the end, which are in Harpenden library - or just while simply walking around the the town."

Now in its first reprint, it is available at all events run by Harpenden Local History Society, through Harpenden Books, 48 High Street or News4U, 1a Station Road, price £3, or by ordering a copy - just download the form below.
