Harpenden's Roll of Honour, January 1915

Men who enlisted in 1914

We have in the Society’s archives a ‘Roll of Honour’ printed in 1915.  We assume this is a list of those men of the village who had enlisted – although, according to the 1911 census, one man (John Anstee) was in the Navy.  Perhaps it includes men already in the forces. The Roll has been transcribed and, for those whose name is on the war memorial, information about them in Mary Skinner’s ‘Harpenden War Memorial 1914 -18’ has been added (columns D & E).

The names have not been specifically researched for further information but where this has come to hand it has been added to column F if from Kelly’s Directories and to columns G,H &I if from the 1911 census. Column J has information gathered from other sources.

To see this extra information scroll across the spreadsheet.

If anyone has any further information about these men please do add it as a Comment or Email it to enquiries@harpenden-history.org.uk.
