Welcome!

This is the website of the Local History Society, where we invite you to browse through many pages about the people and places that make up Harpenden. To view, just open the categories listed on the left, or see What’s New.

However, the website will be FROZEN from 15 March 2021, so that the contents can be transferred to a newly-designed Community Sites platform, and the editors are trained to manage the new format. We hope to be able to re-launch towards the end of May – in time to bring you news about when HARPENDEN MUSEUM will open in the Eric Morecambe Centre in Rothamsted Park later in the year.

Meanwhile You can SEARCH for topics on the site, by using the 'search' box in the banner at the top of the screen, or the Site Map in the grey bar at the bottom of the screen.

And although you cannot add comments at the foot of existing pages – please CONTACT US through enquiries@harpenden-history.org.uk if you want to make a Comment, or let us know that you have page you would like to contribute when the site is re-launched.

Please also contact us with other enquiries, which we will hope to answer, although during the Pandemic, access to our archives is very limited.
