Archives and local history resources

Documents relating to Harpenden's origins as part of the ecclesiastical Parish of Wheathampstead, which belonged to the Westminster Abbey at the time of the Norman conquest, are to be found in the Public Record Office, Hertfordshire County Record Office and many other sources.  Copies of some documents are held in the Local History Centre archives.

We also have extensive files of articles, newscuttings, photographs, slides and local artefacts in our collections held at the Local History Centre in Park Hall.  We are in the process of indexing these files.  They are our source materials for many of the pages on this website, and you are very welcome come to the centre, by prior arrangement, if you would like to help in researching a local topic.  Please contact us at enquiries@harpenden-history.org.uk,
